Read through this page and get information about the common questions that are asked concerning locksmith services. Find out what are the answers from the experts and learn about locks and keys in general.
What are the most frequent problems with keys?
Bending is more common than people think. If the blade is bent, you should get a new key right away. Otherwise, the risk of the blade snapping inside the lock while you are trying to unlock the door is extremely high. Chipping is a less frequent issue. It may affect the peaks and/or the tip. In any of these cases, you won’t be able to use the key and will need to replace it.
What are typically the weakest points of a door lockset?
The strike receiver typically gets the number one spot. This is because it is usually made of thin metal and is attached with small screws. The good news is that you can get a reinforced strike receiver that doesn’t have these flaws. The cylinder may also be vulnerable to attacks unless it is snap-resistant and comes with an anti-picking feature.
Why can’t I insert the key all the way into the UPVC door lock?
The Euro profile cylinder of the lock may be out of sync or greatly worn. A check and testing will reveal if it can be repaired. Usually, it has to be replaced.
